Quinn & Lucas

Quinn & Lucas

I met Quinn and Lucas at The Affordable Art Fair and we immediately bonded over a shared experience of working in graphic design and marketing, as well as the challenges and joys of raising small humans. My wife, Laura, actually was the one to first connect with them, finding them looking at some of my smaller pieces. After chatting a little, she established the pair were looking for a larger work, and something to mark a very special occasion - their first Mother’s Day as new parents.
The piece that they fell in love with was ‘Deep Light’ — the hero piece from my solo exhibition ‘Solace’ at Brunswick Street Gallery. I painted this work not long after deciding to transition to my arts practice full-time. As such, it’s full of hope and joy, but also captures that sense of anticipation ahead of starting something new.
Quinn was kind enough to answer a few questions about why her and Lucas were drawn to my work, and her story is pretty touching. Read on below…

What initially drew you to my artwork?
I was looking to buy my very first Mother's Day gift at the affordable artwork event. We spent three hours wandering around without finding anything I truly loved until Laura found us at the wall, invited us to the stand and introduced us to CK’s artwork.

What made you decide to purchase this particular artwork?
It wowed me. Lucas and I were speechless when we saw Deep Light. It was so emotional because I finally found the positive energy I had lost a long time ago due to postpartum depression. That's when I knew I had to get it and hang it on my wall straight away.
Did you have a specific space or room in mind when selecting this artwork, and if so, how did you envision it fitting into that space?
We have a big white wall in our living room next to a large window. Deep Light really makes the space brighter and adds so much fun to the area. We have made that corner my little boy's playground, so he can play there and enjoy Deep Light with me every day.
What advice would you give to someone considering adding one of my artworks to their collection?
The beautiful colours, texture, and abstract layouts really tell a story and create a connection with you.  It’s so special to have Deep Light as my first Mother’s Day gift. I can’t express how much joy it brings me every time I see it. It lights up my world deeply!
