Here & Now: Gold Coast Triennial

I’m excited to share that my work, Lady Starlight, was selected for the Gold Coast Triennial at HOTA Gallery. It’s an awesome feeling to be part of this exhibition alongside 41 other artists who are deeply connected to the Gold Coast. This show is something special. It's a real reflection of the creative talent connected to, living and working throughout the Gold Coast.

The Triennial only rolls around every three years, and this year you'll find a variety of works from large-scale installations and video to sculpture and painting. The exhibition flows between divided spaces, creating a kind of journey through the artists featured.

For me, Lady Starlight is a deeply personal piece. It’s part of my ongoing exploration of connection, hope and new life—things that have been at the core of my work for a while now. Having it hang in such an important local exhibition is a bit surreal!

What I love most about this show is that it’s not your standard gallery experience. The works are fresh, and the hang is unapologetic... a bit like the Gold Coast itself. The artists featured span different generations and career stages, so you’re getting a real cross-section of the GC creative community.

About the work:

I'm inspired by the emotions and changes in the world around me, and paint my world as I see it, resulting in dreamscapes, gardens and miniature universes. Lady Starlight is a celebration of and a tribute to my wife, painted three days post the birth of our second son. After witnessing the power and resilience of the human spirit, I painted this piece depicting a transcendental movement of light and shape - pure emotion, the trials the triumphs the tribulations – our world had just got a whole lot brighter.
